Hope you are all safe, well and healthy.
Millions and millions of people have been vaccinated now against Covid-19 but here in the UK we are still in lockdown but hopefully seeing light at the end of the tunnel with restrictions easing starting in April.
I think during the last year, people have turned to reading more than ever; either as escapism through fiction or help dealing with 'stuff' through non-fiction. More than ever, you need as authors to ensure that your author brand looks as professional as you can get it. Nothing is more off-putting than seeing typos and grammatical errors in bios/social media posts and websites - if you can't get that right, what's your book going to be like? Each month, I will be including a piece for you about book/author marketing and promotion....so just scroll further down the newsletter for 'Your Author Brand'.

Cathy Lynn Brooks Cathy Lynn Brooks is a wife, mother, and grandmother from Ontario, Canada. Brooks wrote Not My Story to Tell to honor her late daughter, Justine. She hopes her work can provide comfort to families in similar situations.
Cathy also spent forty years working with special-needs children and young adults. Her experiences gave her new insights into the problems her own family faced.
Moeez Hatanian Moeez Hatanian is a writer, blogger, and author currently residing in the UK.
More than anything, since he was young, Moeez has loved to write. Whether it was penning poems, songs, or short stories he has always had a passion for words. For many years, writing was only a hobby for Moeez. Then someone special planted the seed of inspiration in him by suggesting writing could be more for Moeez. If he wrote what he felt and pursued his dreams. Though it took time, and there were many setbacks, Moeez at last began his journey. utopian futuristic romantic drama.
Echoes of Celia is the first novel in his series and is set in outer space. The novel takes place in a galaxy of Moeez's own creation and centres around an Empress who must save the universe.
Nathan Bush Nathan Bush is the author of The Foley Chronicles: Files from the 8th District, what he calls a faith-based crime series, with an attitude. It’s an edgy crime story series with a mixture of grit, humor, excitement, romance, and a touch of Christianity. He also writes The Foley Chronicles: Dark Side of Foley. His blog (Write Here, Write Now) is where he shares short stories/flash fiction in various genres, life ramblings, a few book reviews, an occasional devotional, and some insight on life with a child on the Spectrum.
He has been writing since middle/high school, where he was involved with the school newspaper and literary magazine but didn't publish his first full length novel until 2016. He has since followed up his debut with three more books in the Files from the 8th District series, as well as the first short story in The Dark Side of Foley series.
Molly Arbuthnott "I had been a teacher for seven years before turning to writing; I wanted to read a piece of my own writing to my class rather than someone else’s! Having lost our family Siamese cat on a ferry a few years before that seemed like a sensible place to start as a story theme, whilst also providing some emotional support for me and my family.
I use my many varied experiences from life and living in different countries as inspiration for my writing. Teaming up with three fantastic illustrators has helped breathe life into the stories; which have started to take on a life of their own. Each story is loosely based on family or friends who have been important in my life whilst also trying to tell stories in an honest and gentle way, singing praise to things we have to celebrate in our world."
Crissie Leonard "God found me when I wasn't looking for Him. At first, I ran from him but he continued to pursue me. After a few years, I found myself in a difficult and dark season. I wasn't saved at that time but God met me there. He spoke of a better life that he had for me. He provided the light to illuminate that dark season. Years later, I gave my life to God and promised to follow Him wherever He wanted to take me. He called me to use the pain and the journey through the dark season as my message. He often spoke of writing as a way to reach others on their own difficult paths. I always loved to write stories in different genres.
I write Christian fiction books to show people God's presence in their lives and all around them."
JD Penley "I'm a father, an author, a publisher, a gamer, a car nut, and all around nerd. I currently live in North Carolina with my wife, and my daughter who served as the inspiration for two of the characters in my first book. Since the first book, we have added a little boy to our family. I enjoy writing fantasy stories, with particular focus on the supernatural such as vampires and magic or immortality. I am currently working on my first series called "The Book of The Immortals" with Volume 1 already released in several outlets."
Your Author Brand
It’s not enough just to be good at what you write. You need to be able to create an emotional connection with your reader – often before they’ve had a chance to read your book. How you position your work, how you distinguish yourself from others in your field or genre, as well as how all your efforts are perceived or interpreted by your readers, can be the difference between an author brand that’s works, or one that fizzles.
Effective branding is the foundation to the development of your writer platform and audience-building efforts. The author who can tap into what their readers yearn for and construct an entire experience around what they crave is the author that earns the devoted fan base.
We are judged, assessed and evaluated by others. People will interpret your work, your relevance and the value you offer by what you intentionally and unintentionally share. From your social media updates, blog posts and article contributions, to your podcast interviews, author collaborations or your newest release… Everything adds to the bigger picture of who you are. As your sphere of influence and visibility increases, so does the number of people who have the opportunity to form an impression about you. It’s unavoidable. Whether you’re actively building your personal brand or not, it’s happening. So, why not be deliberate in shaping the direction it takes?
Goodreads & Amazon Author Pages Why do you need Goodreads and Amazon author pages? Firstly Goodreads is a platform for readers, they have over 25 million members of which a good proportion visit the site regularly and there right away you have a captive audience!
Why Amazon? Love it or hate it, millions upon millions of readers buy their books from Amazon! But know this, there are also millions of authors trying to sell their books on this platform too, you presumably are one of these and if your author page is bare, or incomplete, the reader is just going to click elsewhere. Oh and for goodness sake, check your spelling when doing your bios, there’s nothing more off-putting for a reader if the words in your bio are misspelt; what’s your book going to be like?
You have GOT and I’ll repeat that GOT to have a Goodreads and an Amazon author page. It’s easy to sign up for a Goodreads author account. If you are a member of Goodreads, then you can sign up for one. Any author, anywhere in the world, can join the Goodreads Author Program for free. All you need is a published book (or a soon-to-be published book) that can be found in their database. The Goodreads Author Program allows published authors to claim their profile page to promote their book and engage with readers. Once verified, your author profile will include the official Goodreads Author badge, which you can use to tell your fans to follow you on Goodreads.
To create an Amazon author page just Google Amazon Author Central and follow the instructions, again it’s very easy. Make sure you have a head and shoulders picture of yourself on both of these sites and to continue your author brand image, keep them the same. Don’t forget at the end of typing your bio for both platforms to include links to your social media pages and your website and/or blog.
