Book Talk Radio Club Newsletter April 2019
Welcome New Authors To Book Talk Radio Club!
Jim Nesbitt Jim Nesbitt is the author of three hard-boiled Texas crime thrillers that feature battered but dogged Dallas PI Ed Earl Burch -- THE LAST SECOND CHANCE, a Silver Falchion finalist; THE RIGHT WRONG NUMBER, an Underground Book Reviews “Top Pick”; and, his latest, THE BEST LOUSY CHOICE. Nesbitt was a journalist for more than 30 years, serving as an reporter, editor and roving national correspondent for newspapers and wire services in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, D.C. He chased hurricanes, earthquakes, plane wrecks, presidential candidates, wildfires, rodeo cowboys, migrant field hands, neo-Nazis and nuns with an eye for the telling detail and an ear for the voice of the people who give life to a story. His stories have appeared in newspapers across the country and in magazines such as Cigar Aficionado and American Cowboy. He is a lapsed horseman, pilot, hunter and saloon sport with a keen appreciation for old guns, vintage cars and trucks, good cigars, aged whiskey and a well-told story. He now lives in Athens, Alabama.
Vikki Walton is not a fan of dead grapes, but she is a fan of cozy mysteries. That’s why she loves writing her own cozies. Besides her backyard farming mystery series, she‘s working on a new series set in a small town in Texas (where she lived much of her life). Early 2019 she completed a rhyming children’s book (Will God Still Find Me?) in collaboration with her illustrator daughter. When Vikki’s not murdering people on paper, she’s writing nonfiction, travelling the globe as a house and pet sitter, and teaching various topics like work-quilting/entrepreneurship to adults.
Lacey Pruett is a business owner and yoga teacher, passionate about helping women find their higher self by stepping off-stage to engage in the inside job of wholeness.
Serving (performing) as a communicator, TV host, speaker and educator for over 20+ years, she's equipped to mentor women of all ages. Her efforts gained momentum in 2012, when she served as Mrs. Texas United States, and spoke to a broader audience about healthy living and mindfulness.
Growing up in the East End of London had its ups and downs, with the area still struggling to recover from WW2, austerity was high on the agenda. My grandfather grew fruit, vegetables, had ducks and chickens, all of which served as the mainstay of our diet. A glass of orange squash on a Sunday was the week’s highlight - poor-me. Far from it, I loved every minute.
I did okay at school but particularly loved drawing and with the help of my art tutor, gained a place in St John Cass Royal School of Art studying graphic communication and typography. I went on to become a graphic artist, something I detested, feeling I was prostituting a God-given ability. I loved art but hated drawing what other people wanted.
Now retired, I decided to write a book, something that had been under the surface for many years. Ha, being a ‘bloke’ I thought let’s write a sci-fi book, ‘coz that’s what blokes do. I struggled with this, and although I completed it, was never comfortable with this gene. I am not surprised that it resulted in the usual ‘auto, thanks but no thanks,’ from literary agents. This though, sent me on a mission to get it right.
After a lot of floating around in literary oblivion, I eventually found my voice. Unbeknown to me, Rebecca was there all along, waiting for me to find her. With her, came my voice, story, genre, and lead. It has subsequently been suggested I write with a feminine influence. I don’t mind that tag, as it’s probably true. I have now completed Volume II, Rebecca – A Way Back, and am working towards Rebecca – Beyond All Reason, hoping for a September 2019 release date.
